There’s help for victims despite COVID19. Radio PSAs for rides to safety.
So much in 2020 has made life difficult for all of us. For victims of domestic violence, life was tough before masks, job cuts, and social distancing. Families to Freedom adapted quickly to a rapidly changing situation as the pandemic took over North Texas.
Across our great state of Texas, 47% of victims calling for domestic violence shelter will hear that they cannot receive help because there is no space. (TCFV, 2019) Shelters are full.
For those victims who are accepted, many are told they need to figure out some way to get to the shelter by a seemingly arbitrary deadline or lose their spot- never mind she doesn’t have a vehicle or money for a taxi or bus, or connections to friends or neighbors. The victims with the least privilege face greater barriers to safety on a regular basis. That is a problem we can solve.
Access to transportation is the single most important factor in a victim’s ability to escape. Families to Freedom provides all victims of domestic abuse the ability to get to available emergency shelter across North Texas, or directly to the home of family far away.
Support us, and the victims we will serve, by playing a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to inform the community that there is help and a means to get away from violence. Together we can reduce homelessness, reduce hospitalizations, reduce child abuse and reduce murder. Together we can change the game for how DFW victims are able to break free from abuse!
Feel free to contact me if any questions or if you’re interested in scheduling an interview to discuss surviving domestic violence as a show topic.
