PSA Reminding Everyone It’s Time to Get Your Flu Shot
We offer a new, upbeat, PSA in hopes to remind more Americans about seasonal flu, which when encountered, can disrupt your life for weeks if left untreated. Each year, millions of people living in the U.S. get the flu. By getting a flu shot you not only protect yourself, you also protect others.
Influenza vaccines (flu shots) are vaccines that protect against infection by influenza viruses. In past flu seasons, nine out of 10 adults hospitalized with the flu have at least one underlying medical condition and a flu show helps prevent hospitalization.
The CDC recommends that people ages 6 months and older get a flu vaccine by the end of October. Flu shots are especially important for people at increased risk for severe complications, including older adults and individuals with chronic medical conditions, including lung disease like asthma and COPD. Even if you wait until after October, the vaccine will still be beneficial and provide protection.
Since the vaccine is only good for one flu season, it’s important to get vaccinated annually.
The American Lung Association’s mission is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung diseases. As a part of this mission, one of our goals is to inform and educate consumers about common influenzas.
